Children’s Hospital of Michigan has named Mamdouh Dakhel Al-Ahmadi, M.D., as chief of cardiovascular surgery effective November 2, 2020. Dr. Al-Ahmadi joins Children’s Hospital of Michigan from King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center in Riyadhm, Saudi Arabia, where he served as Deputy Director of the Heart Center and Head of the Section of Cardiac Surgery.

“I am honored and humbled by this appointment,” Dr. Al-Ahmadi said. “I appreciate the confidence placed in me to assist in leading this department at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, which is so critical to children and families in the city of Detroit and Southeast Michigan.”

“Dr. Al-Ahmadi has tremendous pediatric surgical experience and extensive training,” said Kathy Donovan, chief executive officer at Children’s Hospital of Michigan. “He will make a great addition to our Cardiovascular Surgical team as he demonstrates the attributes that are valued by all of the staff at Children's Hospital of Michigan.”

Dr. Al-Ahmadi obtained his general surgical training from George Washington University. He went on to complete his fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery from the University of Louisville and completed an additional fellowship in congenital cardiac surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

“I am confident Dr. Al-Ahmadi will help lead our nationally ranked pediatric heart program to new heights and enhance our standing as the leader in providing the most advanced medical and surgical critical care available to pediatric heart patients in Metro Detroit,” Donovan said.

The addition of Dr. Al-Ahmadi is part of the ongoing commitment to continue to enhance and grow the DMC heart program, where compassionate and high quality care is delivered in a unique, collaborative environment.
